Learn GoLive 4.0 the award-winning Adobe way Fastest, easiest, most comprehensive way to master GoLive 4.0 All of GoLive 4.0's powerful new features are fully explored in the book and on the CD-ROM.
Adobe GoLive 4.0 Classroom in a Book, like the other books in the CIB series, is the ideal companion to the software's manuals. It clearly illustrates the methods for building Web sites right from the opening chapter. Starting with basic HTML and including simple tasks like displaying text and organizing it in tables, the book describes the key components of Web sites and how GoLive 4.0 can help you build them. Readers will also find coverage on topics like DHTML code for creating animation and menu rollovers, material that will inspire novice users who want to get up to speed and get on the Web in creative ways. Although targeted at budding Web spinners, some of the more complex issues are not left out. DHTML pages, used for animation and floating boxes for text and graphics, for example, are covered in chapter 5; while cascading style sheets are explored in chapter 7. Anyone who's worked on even a modest-size Web site knows how quickly a site's resources can grow and become difficult to manage and track. The closing chapter, a discussion on overall Web site management, expertly outlines how to organize and maintain medium to large Web sites. Full of helpful screen shots, this is an ideal book for anyone new to Web site construction. You may only lament that the software is not included with it. --Mike Caputo

| Look elsewhere | Rating: | | As with most tutorials, this one suffers miserably from being completely linear, and completely based on your working with their site, not yours. If you have a simple question about a simple operation in the software, it is just about impossible to find the information you need and get a simple answer. I find it worse that useless, it is infuriating. | | Total Votes: 1, Helpful Votes: 1, Date: 2002-01-06 | | | | Great for Beginners! | Rating: | | Before I started using Adobe Go Live Classroom in a Book I had no knowledge at all about building a web site. I found the book very helpful since I was starting from a blank slate, but if you have any knowledge of web design at all I wouldn't recommend this book. It quite often refers to the users manual for more in depth description and the lessons often left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Overall, it proved to be very helpful for me though. I am confident that I could now build my own web site, though it would not be a very complex project! I would recommend this book as a starting point to anyone who would like to learn the basics, but plan on investing in a more advanced book later on to learn the more intricate details of the program. | | Total Votes: 2, Helpful Votes: 2, Date: 2000-08-14 | | | | Helpful introduction to the software, but not enough | Rating: | | In the "Classroom in a book" I found that the steps were easy enough to follow and the examples were interesting, but I would have liked more help in the overall preparation of creating a Web site. While I was able to follow the directions simply, as all the files were there, I felt that it wouldn't translate as easily when I began my site, since I was starting from scratch & wouldn't have the luxury of pre-prepared graphics, text and design. This book is a tutorial, so it lacks the inspiration and advice that another sort of book would offer. For Web design I prefer something more conversational. | | Total Votes: 0, Helpful Votes: 0, Date: 2000-06-21 | | | | Very useful | Rating: | | For the beginner this is a very useful book. I understood it completely with no problems. As far as the Win and Mac displays go, I had no problem with this. The book made a lot of sense. The only problem I did have was saving the files as directed. You have to change the files from read only in order to save. I would recommend it to any one that is new to GoLive. | | Total Votes: 17, Helpful Votes: 17, Date: 2000-03-10 | | | | A little disappointed, especially for the WIN user | Rating: | | I've now completed the entire "Classroom in a Book" and found it overall quite helpful overcoming the "new software" fears. With the massive installed base of WIN versus MAC, it is surprising that so many of the critical screen shots are MAC only. They do offer many in Windows, but when one is starting out, every cue helps. It should be redone for Windows. Also, the practice files on the included are locked "Read Only" -- which is a small problem, one must first "unlock" them in Explorer to save them as directed. Missing: The main purpose of software is to help one do a "job" -- in this case, build web sites. It would be very helpful if they included a chapter, "Building a Multi-Page Site from Scratch" -- taking you step-by-step through a good system of building sites using the software. Advanced users and Web Masters aren't reading the book anyway! | | Total Votes: 48, Helpful Votes: 34, Date: 2000-01-27 | | | | Look elsewhere | Rating: | | As with most tutorials, this one suffers miserably from being completely linear, and completely based on your working with their site, not yours.
